Telepsychiatry

How telepsychiatry works.

Telepsychiatry is psychiatric care delivered by secure video, instead of in a clinic. You meet a board-certified psychiatrist from home, get an accurate diagnosis, and receive evidence-based medication management. Health and Harmony Psychiatry offers telepsychiatry across Texas and California, for ages 12 to 70.

Who it fits

Who is telepsychiatry right for?

Telepsychiatry fits most people who need psychiatric care but do not need to be seen in person. That includes adults, teens, and families managing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and related concerns.

It works well if you are busy, live far from a psychiatrist, or simply prefer the privacy of your own space. It is not the right setting for an emergency. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.

What to expect

What your first visit looks like.

Your first visit is unhurried. It runs 60 to 90 minutes, depending on age. Dr. McDade listens to your history, asks about your symptoms and goals, and makes an accurate diagnosis. Together you build a plan.

Before your visit

You book a time and complete a few intake forms in the patient portal. A brief screening confirms that telepsychiatry fits your needs.

During your visit

You meet Dr. McDade by secure video for a full evaluation. You talk through your history, your symptoms, and what you want to feel better.

After your visit

You leave with a clear diagnosis and a plan. Follow-up visits run 15 to 30 minutes and keep your care on track.

Does it work

Is telepsychiatry as effective as in-person care?

Yes. For most psychiatric conditions, telepsychiatry works as well as being seen in person. The American Psychiatric Association reports that care by video is comparable to in-person care for accurate diagnosis and treatment. You get the same careful evaluation and the same evidence-based treatment, without the drive or the waiting room.

“Telepsychiatry removes the waiting room, not the relationship. You still get a careful evaluation and a plan we build together.”

Medication

Can a psychiatrist prescribe medication over video?

Yes. A psychiatrist can prescribe and manage medication by video. Care at Health and Harmony Psychiatry centers on evidence-based medication management, with steady follow-up to keep your treatment working.

Some medications, including certain controlled substances, are prescribed for patients who reside in Texas.
